Planted along the banks for the Columbia River, at the southern tip of Horse Heaven Hills AVA, Alder Ridge Vineyard’s site selection is second to none. Benefiting from the warmer continental climate of Columbia Valley’s growing season, but with cooling effects from the proximity of the river, high winds from the gorge, and large drops in nighttime temperatures- a beautiful balance of enough heat to optimally ripen but cool enough to retain the fruit’s vibrancy. This blend draws all three varietals from this special vineyard.

The 2024 GSM is our top barrel blend of three Rhone varietals. After barrel aging for 16 months in French oak, we had fifteen barrels to choose from, five barrels of each varietal. The star of the cellar this year was the Mourvèdre, so we started to build the blend around two favorite barrels as the foundation. From there, a barrel of each the Grenache and Syrah were added to create a small four-barrel blend. Mourvèdre offers complex botanicals while showcasing classic notes of leather and game. The Grenache adds bright red fruit and white pepper, and softens the structure. Syrah brings dark fruit, black licorice and charcoal flavors while adding considerable weight and richness. The fullness of flavor and balance makes this one of our best creations to date.
